Eventing–Texas style!

I’m currently in Dallas, Texas, getting ready to go to bed after a busy day at the Greenwood Farm Horse Trials in Weatherford, TX. I am covering the Adult Team Challenge that the Chronicle sponsers. I’m bummed about missing Middelburg HT this weekend, but I hear we’re getting some much-needed rain in Virginia.

I have never been to Texas, so I didn’t really know what to expect. It was quite cool and windy this morning. I actually needed a jacket (which I forgot to bring). It has been quite warm here recently, so I’m glad that passed. Unfortunately, the event experienced flash flooding on Saturday, so they had to cancel the cross country! Everyone was bummed, and many teams went home because the stabling flooded. But a few stuck it out and had a good time doing show jumping today.

Everyone was very nice and welcoming to me as a representative of COTH. It all seems like a big family down there since events are few and far between.

Now I’m hopping on a plane tomorrow morning, which will probably get delayed because of rain in D.C. Then I’ll write my story on Tuesday, and drive to Kentucky on Wednesday for the World Equestrian Games. Busy!
